Josh Sigurdson breaks down the history of the famous Mount Nemrut, a site built by King Antiochus and forgotten for centuries, only to be found once again in the 19th century and keeping people in awe ever since.
We also explore the site in 4K and wander around the ancient sanctuary with a symbolic history that does’t just link east to west but also links ancient civilizations together. From the Hellenic to Mithra.
Nestled in the Taurus Mountains in Turkey, this site isn’t easy to get to as we found out ourselves. Despite Turkey having excellent road systems otherwise, the journey to Mount Nemrut from Adiyaman was difficult. Once arriving we realized there was an extensive walk one must do up the mountain. The scenery was incredible and the east and west terraces (both copies of each other) we powerful. Not only do we bring you an adventure through the site but we deliver the history of the site once thought to be a major archaeological mystery.
From the statues to the tumulus. From the platform to the Euphrates river of ancient Mesopotamia, this site is brilliant.
